Funerals

Funeral Mass Policy & Procedures

If you are a family member and need to arrange a funeral, please notify the funeral home you are working with that you would like your loved one’s Mass to be said at Little Flower Basilica and they will work with us to schedule your funeral, if possible. At this time registered parishioners that have passed away are the only funerals being accepted.

The Basilica provides for the funeral Mass only, we are unable to attend rosary or graveside.

  • The stipend for the Mass and organist is $300, paid to Little Flower Basilica

Should the Little Flower Administration Office need to contact the family we will only contact the funeral home or the family contact in charge of arrangements (to lessen the risk of miscommunication and updates).

Thelma Montez will reach out to the family contact in charge of arrangements to discuss readings and music selections for the Mass.

You can preview readings for funeral Masses on the USCCB website.

FIREARM POLICY

It is the policy of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers of San Antonio and Archdiocese of San Antonio that an individual may not possess a firearm, concealed or openly carried, at any facility owned, leased, or operated by a Carmelite or Archdiocesan entity. Peace Officers commissioned by state, local, or federal agencies are exempt from this restriction.

For the peace of mind of our church family, we want to inform you that individuals may not enter church property with a firearm. We appreciate your compliance with this policy.

PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY LICENSE HOLDER WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN), A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (HANDGUN LICENSING LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN.

PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.07, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY LICENSE HOLDER WITH AN OPENLY CARRIED HANDGUN), A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (HANDGUN LICENSING LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A HANDGUN THAT IS CARRIED OPENLY.

This policy does not prohibit clergy from lawfully and securely possessing a weapon in their residence which may be owned, leased, or operated by the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower, nor does it prohibit an individual from possessing a firearm in a locked vehicle parked in or traveling through a parking area.
